Hope and Faith

Faith

Can we be confident in a hope that we can't see?

The answer to this question is:  Yes, we can!

Our confidence is dependent on the one who does the promising.

As previously related… If someone invited us to travel abroad, our confidence that the person who invited us could really take us depends on the person who did the inviting.   How well do we know him?  If the person who invited us was someone with whom we had no relationship and we didn’t know or we had no idea of how reliable he is, we would not be so confident that the trip was on.  If, however, the person who invited us was one of our parents or close relatives, of course we would believe that the trip would definitely happen.

In the same way, when Allah promises that those who believe and follow Prophet Isa will be honored above unbelievers and be victorious right until the Day of Resurrection (Surah Al Imran 3:55) and receive salvation until heaven, we can absolutely believe it because it is a promise from God.

There is a statement from the Letter to the Jewish Believers (Hebrews) chapter 11 verse 1 confirming that this hope is certain and assured. This passage says, “Faith is being certain of what we hope for and being confident in what we cannot see.”

And again, it is clearly stated that this is certain because God Himself has promised and He does not change His mind. In chapter 6 verses 18-19a it says, “...by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we, who have taken refuge, would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor for the soul,…”

So we can see and conclude that we can have confidence in what we hope for when the one who promises is God.   We experience it by faith in Him.

Let's end with this thought:  'Hope makes visible the invisible; it makes believable the unbelievable; and makes possible the impossible.'

In the next section, we will look at how this God-given hope can benefit us.
